It’s been reported that Tony Gilroy was embargoed from speaking freely about Andor. Disney reportedly ask Gilroy to refrain from using the words fascism and genocide. Well, that embargoed time period has expired.
The prescience of Andor became immediately clear when the occupation of Minnesota ramped up. Federal agents executed two American citizens. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of people were displaced. Families lay destroyed and many are in ruin because of these actions. Countless human rights violations. The list is endless.
Hollywood Reporter asked Tony Gilroy about Minnesota. He hit the nail on the head here:
“You get out your Fascism for Dummies book for the 15 things you do, and we tried to include as many of them as we could in the most artful way possible,” GIlroy tells The Hollywood Reporter. “How were we supposed to know that this clown car in Washington was going to basically use the same book that we used? So I don’t think it’s prescience so much as the sad familiarity of fascism.”
