Majestic Casual, now on Apple Music
It’s 2012.
I’m late for my 8am marketing class. I’m running out the door of my tiny apartment, scrambling along the the sidewalk to campus. I’m 10 minutes away. Can I grab a coffee before class? Surely I can make it. I pull out my shiny new iPhone 5. Pull up YouTube. The wired headphones slowly untangle as I saunter into the student union building. I search for “majestic casual”. I hit play. Full send, volume up. Every step seems softer with music flowing out of the headphones.
Majestic was my daily driver for so long. This was a lo-fi, trip-hop, chillwave firehose of music for so long that my entire catalog of playlists came directly from Majestic for years. That is until there was a brief hiatus because of copyright drama.
My electronic roots demanded reflection today. Lo and behold, after digging up old playlists, I discovered that Majestic is a listed Curator on Apple Music!
It doesn’t look like there’s much activity, but maybe that will change? Check out some of the playlists here:

Huh, you don’t see a new browser everyday, let alone one that opts for webkit over chromium. I suppose I’m pretty late to this discovery from Kagi. The chrome extension support is pretty neat. It’s a great idea and one that Apple should deeply consider. If Apple allowed cross-platform browser extensions, it would transform the web.

Netflix Warner Bros appears unlikely
Netflix has backed out of the deal.
A deal valued at over $82 billion. If Netflix fails to match Paramount’s bid, the world is worse off for everyone. This Ellison takeover is hostile, will result in massive layoffs, and assuming the deal will be approved by regulators â it would mean all of Warner Bros’ HBO Max streaming customers become Paramount subscribers. Other outfits include CNN, the Food Network and not to mention an impressive array of sports offerings.
We believe we would have been strong stewards of Warner Bros.â iconic brands, and that our deal would have strengthened the entertainment industry and preserved and created more production jobs in the U.S. But this transaction was always a ânice to haveâ at the right price, not a âmust haveâ at any price.
Iâm not a fan of Netflix, nor am I defender of its corporate culture. But I do think there is sincerity here. I think Netflixâs DNA is truly honest. While Paramount is plunderous.
We all lose on this deal.

Tony Gilroy, Andor creator on fascism
It’s been reported that Tony Gilroy was embargoed from speaking freely about Andor. Disney reportedly ask Gilroy to refrain from using the words fascism and genocide. Well, that embargoed time period has expired.
The prescience of Andor became immediately clear when the occupation of Minnesota ramped up. Federal agents executed two American citizens. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of people were displaced. Families lay destroyed and many are in ruin because of these actions. Countless human rights violations. The list is endless.
Hollywood Reporter asked Tony Gilroy about Minnesota. He hit the nail on the head here:
âYou get out your Fascism for Dummies book for the 15 things you do, and we tried to include as many of them as we could in the most artful way possible,â GIlroy tells The Hollywood Reporter. âHow were we supposed to know that this clown car in Washington was going to basically use the same book that we used? So I donât think itâs prescience so much as the sad familiarity of fascism.â
